Daenerys Targaryen first appears in the episode "Winter Is Coming," the premiere of the HBO series *Game of Thrones*. She is portrayed by actress Emilia Clarke.
Daenerys is the younger sister of Rhaegar Targaryen and Viserys Targaryen, and the only daughter of King Aerys II Targaryen, the "Mad King." At the start of the series, she is a timid girl living in exile with her brother, Viserys.
Daenerys is forced into marriage with the Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo. Through this marriage, she gains power and influence. She eventually becomes a strong and independent leader, revered by her followers as "Khaleesi," and later "Mhysa."
A defining moment in her character arc is the hatching of three dragons, which solidify her claim to the Iron Throne of Westeros. She becomes known as "The Mother of Dragons." Her ambition leads her on a quest to conquer Westeros and claim the Iron Throne, believing it to be her birthright.
